Visit in Selby for the Poppy-Day November 2018

Visit in Selby for the Poppy-Day November 2018:

This year the  Remembrance Sunday (remembrance day for war victims) and the Poppy Day (Commemoration Day for World War I) fell on the same day: 11.11.2018. It was the one hundredth anniversary of the end of World War I.
Apart from an official delegation from the city of Filderstadt, our 1st Chairman Robert Hertler and our 2nd Chairman Ingrid Albicker made their way to Selby with their partners.
There our hosts made again a great effort and prepared a varied program.
On Saturday night we were able to participate in the "Festival of Remembrance" at Selby Abbey. It was a very impressive evening with wonderful music and singing and impressive lectures and poems.
Then on Sunday morning was  the memorial service in the Abbey with a subsequent parade and wreath-laying ceremony at the monument. Our Lord Mayor Mr. Traub also laid down a wreath as a representative of the twin city.
We were all very impressed with the events and very touched. The Abbey was decorated with a total of over 58,000 homemade poppys (poppy - symbol of Poppy Day). For more than two years, the people of Selbys knitted, crocheted and tinkered.
We are very grateful to our English friends and hosts for inviting us and sharing this time with us.
It will never be forgotten.
