VHS Evening about the "Poppy-Day"

VHS-Evening about the "Poppy-Day":

As part of their cooperation with VHS Filderstadt, the German-British Society Filderstadt e.V. hosted an informative talk about the Poppy Day.
Our chairman Robert Herter welcomed the guests and gave an insight into the activities of our society and their visit to Selby for the  Poppy Day. Over tea and English pastries, the numerous listeners were given extensive information about the history and the current customs around the Poppy Day and the Remembrance Sunday. Both days of remembrance go back to the terrible consequences of World War I. On November 11,  2018 (= Poppy Day), the end of World War I was celebrated for the hundredth time. For this reason, the celebrations were particularly detailed this year. On Poppy Day and Remembrance Sunday,  the deads of the wars  is commemorated, especially in Britain. Both anniversaries fell this year to the 11.11.
As part of a Power Point lecture, this custom was discussed in detail and up-to-date: An official delegation from Filderstadt took part in the two-day celebrations in the twin-town  Selby as well as a private group of visitors from German-British society. This visit was also updated. After the lecture there was the opportunity to discuss in a friendly round. Many thanks to Werner Albicker and his charming assistant Annette Volkmann for the excellent presentation.
