Visit from Selby 2024

Visit from our twin town Selby from August 22nd to 27th, 2024:

Thursday August 22nd, 2024: It was that time again: our friends from Selby came to Filderstadt by train, plane and car. The joy of seeing each other again was great. Everyone then spent Thursday with their host families.

Friday August 23rd, 2024: On Friday we drove to Calw with our guests. There we were given a guided tour to gain an insight into the work of the KSK, a special unit of the German armed forces. Afterwards we went to Calw for lunch at a Greek restaurant. In the afternoon we visited the old town of Calw in the footsteps of Hermann Hesse with English and German guides. Afterwards everyone flocked to the ice cream parlor because of the heat. Strengthened with an ice cream sundae, we got back to Filderstadt.

Saturday August 24th, 2024: On Saturday the German-British Society treated our guests and their hosts to a German breakfast. Afterwards we went to the serigraphy museum in Plattenhardt and then to the local history museum in Bonlanden, where the teapot exhibition had reopened especially for our English friends. At the official evening, our guests were also welcomed by the first mayor, Falk-Udo Beck. As a gift, he received a flag of North Yorkshire from Andrea Faller, the chairwoman of the Twinning Group in Selby. After a delicious buffet, the dance teacher lured the dance enthusiasts onto the dance floor for line dancing.

Sunday August 25th, 2024: Sunday was "family day" - guests and hosts had the day at their own disposal and spent it individually. Some went to Ludwigsburg to the pumpkin exhibition and the circus, others took a boat trip on the Neckar in Esslingen, others went to the open-air museum in Beuren.

Monday August 26 th 2024: On Monday we all met again at the Filharmonie and then drove to Bebenhausen, where we had a tour of the monastery and the castle. In the courtyard of the castle we fortified ourselves with a picnic, lovingly prepared by the hosts. We then went on to Tübingen for punting. Finally, everyone met again in Plieningen in the Garbe. The very intensive days with our friends went by far too quickly and we had to say goodbye again on Tuesday. A big thank you at this point to all the hosts, to all our friends who looked after and pampered everyone in different ways and to Tamara Postnikova for planning and carrying out the program. We look forward to seeing you again in Selby 2025!
